Reframing Hardship: A Holiday Survival Guide

Well, here we are — smack in the middle of the holiday season. If your life looks anything like mine, you’re probably juggling 187 things while dodging those grief landmines (you know, those tiny, unexpected reminders that life isn’t always what we thought it would be). 🎉

In my latest podcast episode, I talk about something we’ve all probably slipped into a time or two: self-pity. You know the vibe — “Why does everything have to be this hard?” But before you think I’m here to hand out tough love, hear me out. I get it. I really, really do. Life as a special needs mom is hard.

But what if — just maybe — we could trade self-pity for something kinder and more powerful? Enter self-compassion. Instead of swirling in “poor me,” we can acknowledge our pain (because it’s real!) and give ourselves the grace we’d give a dear friend.

If you’re curious about the subtle (but life-changing) difference between self-pity and self-compassion, check out the episode:

In this one, I share a little story about my latest adventure in advocating (and appealing, and advocating some more — the joys of 2024, am I right?). I also walk through how a tiny shift in mindset can keep us from spiraling and help us move forward without carrying all that emotional weight.

Oh, and if you’re feeling tempted to compare yourself to everyone else this season, trust me, you’re not alone! This episode might just be the boost you need to face the holidays with a little more peace and a lot more grace.

You’ve got this. I promise. 💫

Merry Christmas and sending love to you all,
Kara
