The Trojan Horse of Happiness

This week I delve into a topic that’s near and dear to my heart: grief. Now before you run away at the mention of grief, let me assure you, we’re unpacking the beautifully unexpected gifts it brings our way. Imagine a Trojan horse — you think you’re signing up for one thing, and then surprise! So much more is revealed.

In Episode 223, “The Trojan Horse of Happiness,” I share the journey of one of my earliest clients, who we lovingly refer to as Diana. Initially, she approached our coaching sessions with the goal of increasing her confidence and control, never expecting that embracing her grief would lead to peace and joy. It was a fascinating transformation that inspired the title of this episode. You’ll discover that grief is more than a gray cloud over our heads; it is a profound part of life that, when invited in, can lead to a deeper, richer aliveness. As I always say, “There is some strange intimacy between grief and aliveness.” This episode is all about holding space for our sorrow to make room for greater joy. We navigate through what grief isn’t — it’s not just incessant tears, nor is it something to fit neatly into stages. Rather, grief is about sitting with discomfort and finding community. Yes, it might sound a bit tricky, but that’s what makes this journey genuinely rewarding.

I also touch on the ways we often try to avoid our grief, like keeping crazy busy or producing at lightning speed (guilty as charged!). But hey, it’s all about cutting ourselves some slack, right? If you’re thinking you need a little hand-holding in this intricate dance between sadness and joy, check out the Pathway to Peace community I mentioned on the podcast. It’s a nurturing, comforting space where we can share our truths without judgment.

Curious to know more? Don’t hesitate to explore this heartfelt journey by listening to the full episode and joining our flourishing community. Remember, grief isn’t about letting go of sadness; it’s about letting in life. Let’s walk this path together.

See you in the episode,

Kara

**PS:** You can dive deeper into some fantastic reads mentioned earlier, like Francis Weller’s insightful book, “The Wild Edge of Sorrow.” It’s one of my favorites and a perfect companion on this journey. Happy listening and reading!
